Overview
Little Nest Early Learning Centre is a vibrant early childhood centre that operates from our downstairs spaces. They provide a nurturing home-away-from-home environment for babies and preschoolers, which aligns beautifully with our heart for serving families. We’re blessed to have their quality care and happy noise as part of our church community.
A Home Away from Home
Nestled in the downstairs spaces of our church at 46 James Street, Little Nest Early Learning Centre provides a beautiful and unhurried home-away-from-home for children aged from 5 months to 5 years old. We’re truly chuffed to have their nurturing environment as part of our church community, adding to the life and spirit of our shared spaces.
Their Heart and Philosophy
The dedicated team at Little Nest is committed to creating a place where every child and their whānau feel safe, loved, and have a deep sense of belonging. Their approach is all about respecting each child’s unique journey.
- Child-Led Learning: They believe children are capable and wonderful little people. Their role isn’t to teach, but to help them learn by tuning into their natural curiosities.
- Respectful Relationships: The teachers, or kaiako, focus on building secure, respectful, and responsive relationships with all tamariki (children) and their families.
- A Close-Knit Community: Setting themselves apart from larger centres, Little Nest takes pride in its smaller, family-like community, which allows for more personal care and connection.
The Little Nest Rooms
The centre is thoughtfully divided to cater to the different needs of each age and stage.
Pipi Room – For Infants and Babies (5 months to ~2 years)
This room provides a calm, safe, and inviting space for the littlest ones. Routines for sleeping and feeding are arranged to match your home routine, creating a seamless and nurturing day.
Paua Room – For Toddlers and Preschoolers (2 to 5 years)
In the Paua Room, children are encouraged to learn through a combination of free play and structured experiences. The programme is varied and follows the New Zealand national early childhood curriculum, Te Whàriki. A wide variety of activities are on offer every day, from sensory play and art to music and dance.
