Following the heart of Jesus

We’re a family of many cultures and generations, walking together with Jesus. Rooted in God’s Word and empowered by the Spirit, we’re learning to love God deeply, love people well, and live out the gospel in our neighbourhood.

The heart of Glenfield Baptist Church

purpose & mission

GBC is currently in a pastoral search process. One of the key tasks of the transition ministry has been to help the church discern its purpose.

Clarifying this purpose helps us identify the kind of leader who can shepherd and encourage the congregation toward the mission Jesus is calling us to.

Our beliefs
  1. At an identity workshop in March 2025, we explored the question: “Why does Jesus have a Baptist Church in Glenfield/Bayview in 2025?” Together, we discerned this answer:

  2. Purpose

We are a diverse family journeying together with Jesus for faith formation and community transformation.

  3. Mission

To love God, love people, and make disciples—empowered by the Holy Spirit and rooted in God’s Word.

Growing in faith

core values

These are the convictions that guide who we are as a church. They shape our worship, relationships, and the way we live out the gospel in our community.

  • Gospel-centred

All we do together as a community will have as our highest priority, the proclamation of Jesus’ good news and the continuing faith formation of His people. Our decisions and actions will be underpinned by this commitment.

  • Servant heartedness

Knowing all positions of leadership are a God given privilege, those called to positions of leadership will value humility, accountability and compassion, for the good of our people and our mission in our community.

  • Generosity

We choose to cultivate a spirit of generosity in our congregation, practicing gratitude and seeking always to see the good in each other.

  • Courageousness

We choose to step into uncomfortable situations and conversations so reconciliation can begin, relationships can be healed and healthy unity be nurtured.

  • Empowering

We will be a congregation who calls forth, supports and encourages the leaders in our congregation. We will actively nurture and care for ministry leaders so they can effectively fulfil the responsibilities of their call.

What we believe

beliefs

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

One God who eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — co-equal and of one essence.

  • Father God is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe.
  • The Son, Jesus Christ, took on human nature, lived a sinless life, died for our sins, rose again bodily, and will return in glory.
  • The Holy Spirit draws people to Jesus and dwells in every believer from the moment of salvation, empowering us to live in obedience and witness to Christ. We affirm the authority of the Bible as God’s inspired, error-free Word — the foundation for belief and practice. Humans are created in God’s image, yet all have sinned and are separated from Him.

Salvation

Salvation is God’s free gift, received by faith in Jesus Christ alone — not earned by works. People were created to exist forever. After death, we are either eternally separated from God by our sin or dwell eternally with Him through forgiveness and salvation.

Mission

We believe the Church is both universal and local — a community called to worship God, make disciples, serve others, and share the gospel.

Baptism & Communion

Baptism by immersion and Communion are ordinances given by Jesus. Baptism is for those who believe and freely consent; Communion is for all who call Jesus Lord. At GBC, we commit to worship, mission, evangelism, and life together.
